Biography

Mike Song is an internationally renowned choreographer and dancer.  At the age of 25, he has been a creative force behind several distinguished dance crews and projects such as America’s Best Dance Crew’s Kaba Modern, Step Up Revolution, BLAZE: World Tour, and KINJAZ.   With over 30 million views of his collective work on Youtube, he has become one of the most recognizable personas in the dance scene.

Born in Redondo Beach, California, Mike was inspired to dance by both American and Korea pop artists such as Michael Jackson, Usher, H.O.T. and Yoo Seung Jun.  At the age of 16, Mike was flown out to Korea after winning Radio Korea’s Annual Summer Talent Search.

When Mike entered UC irvine in 2004 as an economics major, he joined Kaba Modern, which changed his life. Two years later, he became director of Kaba Modern. During his year as director in 2007, Kaba Modern won 1st Place in the USA at the Hip Hop International Championships, and 2nd Place in the World.  Mike went on to represent the team as finalists on the first season of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew.

Since then, Mike has traveled extensively (both domestically and internationally), to perform, judge, and teach. As an instructor, Mike has taught workshops in Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, North America, and South America and continues to travel and teach around the world.  Mike has also been known to dabble in freestyle competitions as well.  In 2010, he won 1st Place in the Urban Street Jam All Styles Battle.  In 2011, he won 1st Place in the Full Force Anniversary All Styles Battle.

In 2011, Mike was invited to perform in the Jabbawockeez Müs-I-C Show at the Las Vegas Monte Carlo.

Most recently, Mike has choreographed for the critically acclaimed international stage production "BLAZE: The Streetdance Sensation," under the direction of Anthony Van Laast (Batman Live, Mamma Mia!, My Fair Lady).  He also worked with Korean Pop sensation “B2ST” and co-choreographed the music video for their award-winning #1 single, “Breath.”  Domestically, he has been featured as a dancer and guest Choreographer for Director Jon M. Chu’s web series “The LXD,” in both the Seasons 2 & 3 and their performance on the Conan Show and Nickolodeon's HALO Awards.  He is also an Assistant Choreographer for the movie Step Up Revolution.

Most recently, Mike made his 2nd appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show and performed an experimental collaboration of Dancing and Beatboxing with Canadian beatbox champion KRNFX.  His first appearance on the show included a performance from his viral hit video, "Gangnam Style Mom".

Mike ultimately hopes to promote positivity and inspire and encourage others through dance and entertainment.
